There’s something timeless about a winter wedding in the hills of Northern NSW. When Charlie and Dane reached out about capturing their day at Summergrove Estate, I knew it would be one to remember. The crisp June air, the golden light over the hinterland, and the way the venue’s white-walled chapel contrasts perfectly with the rolling greenery beyond the glass-panes.

Pre-Production | Planning the Vision

In the lead-up to the wedding, I liaised with Charlie and Dane to get a feel for their vision — something modern yet deeply sentimental. Charlie, who owns her own floral business, designed and styled all florals, bringing a refined touch of artistry to the day. The lead-up was all about crafting a plan that allowed space for the real moments to happen on the day while still hitting those cinematic moments that I know would make their film unforgettable.

On the Day | Capturing the Magic

Summergrove Estate never disappoints. Nestled in the Tweed Coast hinterland, it’s one of those rare venues where every angle looks like a film set. From the sweeping driveway to the open reception space, it’s the perfect canvas for any filmmaker.

The day started with calm anticipation. I arrived 30-minutes prior to say hi and setup my tripods in the chapel. Dane and his groomsmen were getting ready in one of Summergrove’s cottages, while Charlie’s bridal prep was surrounded by laughter, music, and the scent of fresh blooms.

The ceremony, officiated by @bestcelebrantever, was heartfelt and intimate, framed by panoramic views that stretched all the way to the coast. The music by @stevejcarlyle created an atmosphere that perfectly matched the tone. Soulful, elegant, and a little bit nostalgic.

Working alongside @laurenwildcreative, we seamlessly moved through the day, ensuring every moment was captured naturally. From stolen glances to bursts of laughter. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the light turned golden, wrapping the couple in one of those cinematic glows you dream about as a filmmaker. We were so fortunate to catch the golden light as we were wrapping up the portraits session.

Post-Production | Crafting Their Summergrove Estate Wedding Film

Back in the edit suite, I focused on weaving together the story of Charlie and Dane’s day with a blend of clean transitions, emotive pacing, and atmospheric sound design. The film’s tone sits between timeless and contemporary. Blending slow, romantic moments with warm, emotive snippets of the speeches.

Each clip was colour graded to bring out the warmth of the afternoon light and the cool tones of the winter season. The final film captures not just the beauty of Summergrove Estate but the essence of Charlie and Dane; grounded, stylish, and deeply connected.

Final Thoughts

Filming Charlie and Dane’s wedding at Summergrove Estate was a beautiful reminder of why I love winter weddings. Their day was a perfect balance of style and sentiment, and it was an honour to translate that into a film they will cherish.
